This is what I find most troubling...not so much Obama per se. I thought that at least after 8 years of the Bushites there would be a respite...than along comes...don't smear Obama...not . . ." more

Lora,
What about them Celtics? They just beat Detroit to even up the Series at 1-1. The Pats lose to the Giants was heart-breaking...a perfect season messed up by a mediocre team. The Giants are not a good team...I couldn't believe what happened. However, I had been disenchanted with the Pats defense and pass coverage...for a few weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. Tom Brady spoiled them by bailing them out time and again. They always knew Tom would pick up the slack, but, it was bound to happen. The less than stellar defense would burn the Pats. In the Super Bowl Tom, again, brought them back late in the game and than the defense blew...again. The Giants have one very important positive whether they are good in other areas of the game or not...they keep the ball out of the other teams hands. The Giants were able to keep Tom from getting the ball. It's the biggest upset I've ever seen in sports. The Patriots were and still are a superior team than the Giants...I'm still in semi-shock. I didn't watch sports news for about a month after that lose. Didn't want to hear anything about that game. On that taping issue with Bill Bellichek...I'm glad it's all cleared up...even though, Arlen Specter who apparently has nothing better to do in the Senate wants to continue investigating as a good Pennsylvania politician (Eagles, Steelers) hmmm. Everybody does it...every team, but, someone over at the Jets finked on the Patriots. The commissioner David Stern knows this is more endemic to the game...it goes way beyond just the Patriots...so he has wisely tried to put a lid on it. Somebody needs to take Arlen aside and infrom him that if this investigation goes further...his' Eagles and Steelers will be swept up in the dragnet, also. That should give him pause to reflect. I was looking through your' interest and I see that you like the traditional jazz artist...I do, too. I saw that we share a few books (Grapes of Wrath, for instance) and authors (Pearl Buck, for example) and other commonalities (Casablanca, Fellini, Turner Classics) speaking of which, I just spent the entire day watching Bette Davis films on TCM, my favorite actress.
She is one of mine as well - such a tantalizing woman in so many respects - a real talent...I do love the old movies of the 40's - mama started having labor pains while she was at the movie theatre in Venezuela - May 9th 1949, I was born! I should be watching a Bette Davis movie now - however, am reading by the fire. Until later. Salud.

Felix - thanks so much for your note - it's good to have such a neat new friend. I did not know that about Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Actually, for a long time, I've thought about going and living a simple life in a simple place. The place where mama was raised in Venezuela is now very tourist oriented. Many of my cousins are chasing the elusive buck. I really don't know them well. I write to one, Carmen Elena and she really wants me to come visit. I'm afraid if I go I might stay there and find some little village and just veg out...I love a simple life especially one in which I am outside most of the time. I love heat and I do love the tropics.
Louisiana offers me that opportunity six months out of the year. I am blessed in that respect and it is closer to my birthplace. I'm glad you pinged me and hope you don't leave Gather. My other email is Bayoutoes@aol.com should you decide Gather is not for you. I like it here though as I've met so many folks and my world is expanding. Ok I have to go and read your Ping again...it was nice hearing from you. Salud. You have a very interesting life as well as well as many of the same interests as I -

Hello my new friend - We have much in common. Recently, I was doing a google about the town where my beloved mother grew up in Venezuela and I found an arthur there by the name of Alfredo Almas Alfonzo. He was born in 1921 but has passed away. His books seems like the type that I would love to read. I have decided to read a whole novel in Spanish - since mama died, I feel that I want to become enriched in her early life. She told me stories all the time and perhaps she did know Alfredo but didn't know he had become a writer. Clarines was a small place back then - it's now larger and someday I may go to visit all of my cousins there and in Barcelona and in the tiny town of Caigua where mama was born...so have you read this author??? Do you know if this book would possibly be transcribed in English anywhere?
Thank you and have a blessed day. Salud.
